SFV-CFM History

The San Fernando Valley Coral Farmers MarketSM (SE-CFM) event was initially developed during 2012. The Coral Farmers MarketSM , was first approached during the summer of 2012 by Reefapple®. They proposed a two day coral show within the San Fernando Valley of southern California. Historically large captive reef conferences have occurred regularly within Orange County, but in the Los Angeles area, they have only sporadically occured. The city of Long Beach once hosted a single Macna and a IMAC. So the area of Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley has been in need of a regular reef conference. A large portion of the imported corals brought into the US captive reef market, have been shipped though the Los Angeles airport. The San Fernando Valley was also a hot bed for some of the early large coral frag swaps. We agreed with Reefapple® that the San Fernando Valley would be an ideal location for a new Coral Farmers MarketSM coral show, expo and conference. The deal was sealed by the fact that Reefapple could provide us with additional high caliber and skilled logistical support.

The CFM event schedule now places our first show of the year in the Western US region at the San Fernando Valley of southern California (SFV-CFM). Our second show of the year, is our first CFM sanctioned event of the year and it occurs in the Central US region at the Dallas Fort Worth area (DA-CFM). That coral show occurs within the Next Wave conference hosted by the Dallas Fort Worth Marine Aqurium Society. That is followed by our long running Southwestern Coral Farmers MarketSM (SW-CFM), which has now been relocated to north Orange County California. During 2013, we intend to add a new Central US Region coral show that will occur sometime during the summer. That will be followed by the Inland Empire Coral Farmers MarketSM (IE-CFM), another Western US regional event that has always occured during the fall. We finish the year in the Eastern US region with our South Eastern Coral Farmers MarketSM (SE-CFM), which we intend to move to a new home city in 2013.

The Coral Farmers MarketSM events are all about bringing coral farmers and coral aquarists together to conduct free market exchanges. Once inside the event, the buying public is free to conduct business directly with participating coral farmers and exhibitors. The main revenue sources include the leasing of booth space to retailers, the selling of event tickets to the public, the selling of event drawing tickets during the event and the charging of event auction fees during the event. We believe that this San Fernando Valley Coral Farmers Market SM event, will eventually become a very large and prestigious two day coral show event. The SFV-CFM event also supports local reefing communities and online internet communities. We have invited some local Reef Clubs to participate with free booths.
