NW-CFM History

2007 NorthWestern Coral Farmers Market Event

The NorthWestern Coral Farmers Market (NW-CFM) event was initially developed at the start of 2007. The same business partners that own and operate the Coral Farmers Market, the SouthWestern Coral Farmers Market and the Bay Area Coral Farmers Market, (Art Petit and Steve Tyree), both own and operate this NW-CFM event company. The Northwestern Coral Farmers Market is a separate and distinct company. Both Art and Steve decided to organize and promote a Coral Farmers Market event within the Pacific Northwest area because we were looking to add a third event to our schedule that would occur in the month of August. Since this is one of the hottest summer months of the year, we narrowed our search to northern locations. Steve had also attended a large coral frag swap in Portland about 2 years earlier that was very successful. That swap was organized by the PNWMAS Hobbyist Club. The main limitation with choosing a northern location located very far from our home base in Southern California, was the logistics of transporting the events supporting infrastructure. Once we figured out an affordable method of transferring our event infrastructure, the planning for the Northwestern Coral Farmers Market was shifted into high gear.

The CFM event schedule now places our first show of the year down south in Southern California during the end of winter. Our second show then occurs half way up the coast in the Bay Area just before summer begins. The third show of the year occurs during the end of summer and is located far up the coast in the Pacific Northwest. This Northwestern Coral Farmers Market event is all about bringing coral farmers and coral aquarists together to conduct free market exchanges. Once inside the event, the buying public is free to conduct business directly with participating coral farmers. The main revenue sources for NW-CFM include the leasing of booth space to retailers, the selling of event tickets to the public, the selling of event raffle tickets during the event and the charging of event auction fees during the event. We believe that this NorthWestern Coral Farmers Market will eventually become one of the largest coral farming events within the Pacific Northwest. The NW-CFM company also supports local reefing communities and online internet communities. We have invited some local Reef Clubs to participate at informational tables.
