The SouthWestern Coral Farmers MarketSM company (SW-CFM) was formed during the summer of 2005. Steve Tyree (owner and operator of Reeffarmers) and avid aquarist Art Petit (local southern California aquarist) decided that running an annual event in the Ontario California area might be a good business decision. We first looked into utilizing the Ontario Convention Center, but the size and scope of the event would be too large. Booth prices and ticket prices would be too high due to logistical requirements by the convention center. This would have also forced Art and Steve to take on two other partners. Steve however still wanted an event to showcase and distribute farmed corals. Art also wanted an event that would bring in some very exotic corals for sale locally. Both decided to keep the event focused on the selling of captive grown exotic farmed corals. From its very beginning, the SouthWestern Coral Farmers MarketSM has been about promoting farmed corals. We do not permit the selling of whole imported wild coral colonies at the event and any farmer that violates this rule will be banned from SW-CFM events for 2 years. We are planning and hoping that this large scale coral farming event continues to grow in size and scope every year.

The SouthWestern Coral Farmers MarketSM company is a business services company. We are all about bringing coral farmers and coral aquarists together to conduct free market exchanges. Once inside the event, the buying public is free to conduct business directly with participating coral farmers. The main revenue sources for SW-CFM now include the selling of booth space to retailers, the selling of event raffle tickets during the event and the charging of event auction fees during the event. In 2010 the SW-CFM company decided to allow free admission to the attending public. We will continue that new policy until and if maximum occupancy restrictions ever become a concern. We believe that this SouthWestern Coral Farmers MarketSM will eventually be one of the larger events in the United States where selling farmed corals is the main attraction. The SW-CFM company also supports local reefing communities and online internet communities. We have invited a local Reef Club to participate and they will have a Midscale booth.
